United Way Community Celebration: The United Way of Becker County will host its annual Community Celebration from 4:30 to 6:30 at the Detroit Lakes Pavilion. Festivities include free food and beverages, children's games, door prizes, face painting, "Hero Vehicle" display in the parking lot, informational booths on area nonprofits supported by the United Way, and a free bike giveaway (14 bikes will be distributed). Chicago Tap Theatre: The Historic Holmes Theatre's 20th anniversary season kicks into high gear with this energetic showcase of the best in tap dance, from the 1920s to the present, and including some of the Chicago Tap Theatre's innovative original work. Show will be followed by a farewell dessert reception for former Holmes Theatre Executive Director Amy Stoller Stearns in the Holmes Ballroom. Ride to Provide: A motorcycle ride to raise funds and awareness for the Lend a Hand Up organization, the Ride to Provide departs from Zorbaz in Detroit Lakes at 11 a.m., returning at approximately 4:30 p.m. for an evening of live music, pizza and prizes. Taste of Lund: The 17th Annual Taste of Lund celebration gets underway at 9 a.m. inside Lund Lutheran Church , located nine miles north of Detroit Lakes on Richwood Road. American Legion Luau: Detroit Lakes American Legion Post 15 will host a luau fundraiser from 4 p.m. to midnight, with music, food, hula, karaoke and more. Come dressed in your best Hawaiian attire and join in the fun.

Richwood Winery Closing Celebration: Richwood Winery will end its 12-year run with a closing celebration and retirement party for winery coordinator Deb Krogsgaard, starting at 1 p.m.; Doug Thompson will perform from 4 to 6 p.m. The winery will officially close its doors after the last guest goes home.

Tamarac Fall Festival: The annual Fall Festival at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge will take place from noon to 4 p.m. There will be children's activity stations, nature walks, photography workshops, a phone photo contest, family photo booth and more, all taking place at the Visitor Center, Discovery Center and points in between. An "early bird" photo safari at 11 a.m., with photographer Denise Warweg and refuge manager Kent Sundseth, will take participants by carpool, behind the gates to one of the Refuge's best spots for fall photography; and you can also take a scenic photo cruise on the Blackbird Wildlife Drive to soak in all the season has to offer. The Friends of Tamarac will be serving lunch for just $5 per plate; all other activities are free and open to the public.

Anime and Manga Club: Anime and manga fans are invited to geek out over their favorite shows and stories, starting at 4 p.m. at the Detroit Lakes Public Library. A different theme is discussed at each monthly meet-up, and snacks are always available.

Candidate Forum: The Detroit Lakes Area League of Women Voters and Chamber of Commerce are co-hosting a candidate forum for all 2022 Becker County commissioner and sheriff candidates, starting at 6 p.m. in the community room at the Detroit Lakes Police Department, 807 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes. Free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Holmes Art Club Kickoff: The kickoff for the Holmes Art Club's fall season takes place at 4:30 p.m. for grades 1-6 and 6:30 p.m. for grades 7-12, in the Holmes Art Cellar at 806 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes. Weekly sessions will be held every Monday at the same time and location, through Nov. 21 (no session Oct. 31). Cost is $130 per person, and includes all materials. Detroit Lakes Library Club: This month's Library Club will feature a 2 p.m. presentation about the Washington Park development project by Terry Eiter, DLHS Social Studies teacher and baseball coach, in the main meeting room of the DL Public Library (1000 Washington Ave.). Eiter will provide information about the project, and answer questions. The meeting will start with a sing-a-long led by Carol Shipley and Kris Tovson! Stay after the program for refreshments and conversation. Library Club is open to all. Anyone is invited to join for $5 a year, or $50 lifetime membership.

Family Fun Movie Night: Come to the Detroit Lakes Public Library at 5 p.m. for a special screening of the 2022 animated movie "The Bad Guys," based on the popular children's chapter book series.

Meatball Supper To Go: The Detroit Lakes United Methodist Church will host its annual meatball supper from 4 to 6:30 p.m., with "to-go" meals only. Menu includes two meatballs, mashed potatoes and gravy, roll, green beans, coleslaw and dessert; cost is $12 per plate, with cash, credit cards and checks all accepted for payment. The church is located at 885 Pembina Trail in Detroit Lakes.

Open Acoustic Jam: Bring your acoustic instruments and go to the Detroit Lakes Public Library for an unplugged jam session, starting at 5 p.m.

Pints and Plaid: The St. Mary's Essentia Health Foundation will host a Pints and Plaid fundraiser at Bucks Mill Brewing, 824 Washington Ave., Detroit Lakes, from 6 to 9 p.m., featuring gourmet cuisine, live and silent auctions, and a cash bar for testing some of Bucks Mills' variety of brews, made on site. Lakes Area Coffee Crawl: The 2nd Annual Lakes Area Coffee Crawl takes place between 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., with five stops between Hawley and Perham including Fill Thy Cup in Hawley, Ella Marie's Cafe and Collectibles in Lake Park, Roasted and La Barista in Detroit Lakes, and Gathering Grounds in Perham. With purchasing a $25 ticket you will receive a customized coffee mug along with a road map to each of the destinations. At each destination your cup will be filled with a fall themed coffee. Free Movie Screening: A free showing of the family-friendly animated movie "Hotel Transylvania" will take place at 10 a.m. inside Cinemagic Washington Square 7 Theaters in Detroit Lakes. Concessions available for purchase starting at 9:30 a.m.

Frazee Fall Extravaganza: A fall-themed craft and vendor show takes place at the Frazee Event Center, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., followed by a "Christmas in October" open house at Forest Edge Gallery, 4-7 p.m., with live music, fire pits, concessions and horse-drawn wagon rides. Open to the public.

Damien Home Tour: The Damien Society will host a tour of five area homes including residences on Detroit, Franklin and Pelican lakes, 12:30-4 p.m. Tickets for this fall fundraiser for area charities are $20 in advance, $25 on the day of the event, available at Central Market, Mainstream Boutique and the Chamber of Commerce in Detroit Lakes as well as from Damien members. Family Storytime: Wiggle, giggle, sing and play at a family storytime session starting at 10:30 a.m. in the Detroit Lakes Public Library, 1000 Washington Ave., and help your child develop exceptional reading skills. Family storytime lasts 30 minutes and includes a coloring sheet. Free and open to the public.

Vergas Hairyman Festival: The Vergas community will host an all-day "Hairyman Festival," including an ATV trail ride, scavenger hunt, kids games, trap shooting demonstration, axe throwing, a live performance by the band Whiskey Business, bean bag tourney, beer pong, food and beverage trucks and so much more! Open to the public.

Dancing Into the Future: Come to the Detroit Lakes Public Library for a performance and presentation on Native American jingle dresses and dancing, starting at 1 p.m. Four different jingle dresses will be featured, along with a drum circle and dance demonstrations. Free and open to the public.

Lonestar: Detroit Lakes' Historic Holmes Theatre will host a 7:30 p.m. concert by the multi-platinum-selling, award-winning country band Lonestar. Shelter Bash 2022: The Humane Society of the Lakes will host a week-long series of activities, Sept. 19-25, culminating in an end-of-week celebration at TJ's on Lake Eunice, Sept. 25 from 12-3 p.m. More festivities to be added. Comprehensive Driving Class: A full, eight-hour driving course will take place on Sept. 21-22, 5-9 p.m. each night, at the ITOW Veterans Museum, 805 W. Main, Perham. Department of Public Safety-approved, in-person class for those age 55 and older, with no tests or workbooks. Rotary Blood Screening: The Detriot Lakes Noon Rotary Club's Community Blood Screening is Sept. 20-23 from 7-9:30 a.m. in the Essentia Health St. Mary’s EMS Building, 225 Park St., Detroit Lakes. Doors open at 6:45 p.m.; no pre-registration is necessary. Cost is $40 per person, and the screening covers collection of blood samples, analysis, results and refreshments after sample is drawn.

Pumpkin Fest: The city of Lake Park will host its annual Pumpkin Fest fall celebration on Sept. 22-24, beginning with the Lil' Miss Pumpkin Fest Pageant on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. and concluding with a street dance at the Lake Park Liquor Store, 8:30 p.m. until closing on Saturday, Sept. 25. There will also be contests for pumpkin and scarecrow decorating, yard decorating, pumpkin carving, a weigh-in contest for the largest pumpkin, a pumpkin brunch bake-off and more. Lakes Area Changed Lives Outreach: Lake Eunice Evangelical Free Church will host three days of outreach by evangelist Danny Ottoson, Sept. 23-25, with sessions at 7 p.m. each night and 10 a.m. on Sunday. There will be special music by the Ottosons and area artists. The church is located at 12986 Co. Hwy. 15, Detroit Lakes. No cost to attend.

Maplewood Leaf Days: The Friends of Maplewood State Park will host a Leaf Days celebration at the park on Sept. 24-25, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. There will be hot dogs and brats available at the Friends' food stand, and various activities taking place throughout each day, along with hiking and viewing Maplewood's gorgeous fall colors.

Plant, Pest and Gardening Clinics: To help answer your questions and provide helpful ideas for your trees, shrubs, home gardens and lawns, the Becker County Extension Service hosts plant, pest and gardening clinics by the Becker County Master Gardeners every Monday through September, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Extension office. HR Connect: The Detroit Lakes Chamber is hosting an opportunity for human resources professionals, business owners and managers to connect, every first Thursday of the month at 8:15 a.m. at the Chamber office at 700 Summit Ave. Discuss human resource topics, share best practices and review data to help attract, retain and grow the workforce for the lakes region. Library Storytime: The Detroit Lakes Public Library offers weekly storytime sessions every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Preschoolers and their caregivers are invited to join library staff for stories, flannel boards, finger plays, songs and more. This early literacy experience explores a different theme each week and is a way to encourage young children to enjoy reading; sometimes held outdoors during the summer months, weather permitting.
