If one of your sheets wears out or gets ruined, always buy a full set rather than an individual replacement. It’s more affordable in the long run, and your sheets won’t be mismatched. (BestReviews)

Bamboo is among the best materials used to make bed sheets. It goes by a few names such as viscose or rayon, depending on if it's pure or mixed with other materials. No matter what, it should feel luxurious — and you don’t even need to break the bank to get a set.

The best bamboo sheets are the Hotel Sheets Direct Bamboo Sheets. Everything you need is included, and the set comes in all common sizes and 15 colors, plus they have deep pockets.

Before shopping for new bamboo bed sheets you need to know what size bed they're for. Most sheets are available in all standard sizes, those being twin, full, queen and king. There are several size variants to look out for as well, including California king and twin XL.

If you have your heart set on a specific sheet or sheet set but it isn’t available in the correct size, you can always buy a size up. With a size up you can either have them hemmed to the appropriate size or you can tuck the excess material underneath your mattress. Try not to buy more than one size up or you’ll be swimming in fabric.

On top of the size of your mattress, you also need to consider its depth, otherwise known as its thickness. Most mattresses, and most sheets, are roughly 8 inches deep, give or take an inch. There are also deep mattresses as thick as 15-16 inches and extra-deep mattresses as thick as 22 inches.

Like with size, you can buy a larger set than you need and tuck the excess fabric under the mattress.

Bamboo sheets come individually and in sets. Most sets include one fitted and one flat sheet as well as between one and four pillowcases. Uncommon but possible additional inclusions may be between one and four pillow shams as well as a topper such as a quilt or a comforter.

Thread count is a measure of how thick a sheet is with higher numbers meaning a thicker sheet. A common misconception is that higher thread counts make for better sheets. In reality, the best sheets have a roughly 500-thread count. Lower than this and sheets can be so thin as to be ineffective while higher and they can become so stiff they feel uncomfortable.

Grams per square meter, or gsm, is a measure of how heavy a sheet is. There’s no right answer for best gsm; some people prefer not to feel weighed down while others love the extra weight. Light sheets have 150 gsm or less, medium sheets have 150-350 gsm and heavy sheets have 350-plus gsm.

The most frustrating part of putting fresh sheets on your bed is getting halfway through before realizing you put the short end of the sheet on the long side of the bed. The best sheets prevent this issue by labeling each side of the sheet as “short” or “long” with small tags.

They can cost as little as $20 for a single sheet or as much as a few hundred for a designer-level set. Most sets made of good quality bamboo cost $50-$100.

A. The main benefit is how soft bamboo-derived materials feel, often being described as silklike. Bamboo sheets are also naturally breathable and moisture-wicking, which makes you feel more comfortable and helps reduce dust mites' ability to breed which in turn helps you experience fewer allergies. They also don't absorb the body's natural oils and are more durable than the average sheet, being less likely to tear or pill.

Bamboo is also a more sustainable resource than other materials as it grows quickly and requires little water.

A. The only real downside is the cost. Bamboo sheets are among the most expensive, especially when purchased outside of a set. It can also be difficult to tell if a prospective bamboo sheet is pure bamboo or if it mixes materials to help lower costs. That said, bamboo sheets do tend to last much longer so the initial cost is typically offset eventually.

Our take: These are among the best bamboo sheets you can buy before you reach the high-cost zone.

What we like: The set includes a fitted sheet, flat sheet and two pillowcases. The sheets have 144 gsm and deep pockets of 16 inches. These wick moisture as you sleep and stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer, plus they get softer with each wash.

What we dislike: A few consumers found the pillowcases to be too small. Others reported an odd smell that takes a few washes to get rid of.
